Sagittarius & Aging – Calming The Restless Soul

Hi Elsa,

You wrote, or maybe created a video on the subject of recognizing “Restlessness” in a natal chart. It got me thinking about that in myself, and my husband. What are some of the placements that would point to being restless? And is it your experience to see restlessness wrestled to the mat over time, and with age?

Restless or wrestled on Whidbey Island, US

Hi, Restless.

First, I should probably define, “restlessness”.   A person might be mentally restless, which I call, “nervous and jerky”.  That’s not what I’m talking about when I use that term. I’m talking about a person who is inclined to leave.

They want to go somewhere, so they leave.
They get to where they are going,. They’re there, so then they want to go somewhere, so they leave!
There’s always another horizon, see?

Recently I worked with a father who asked if his daughter was going to leave a bad man.

“Yes,” I said.

“How do you know?”
“Because she never stays…”

The primary signature for restlessness is a strong Jupiter, mashed with the moon. A person may have their moon in Sagittarius, Jupiter in Sagittarius aspecting their moon, Jupiter in the 4th house, etc.

As for a person curbing their tendency to move on as they age, this may or may not happen. A lot of Jupiter moon types see no value at all to being tethered on a short leash. But others come to a point where they look at their life and for all their adventures, they begin to feel it’s all been a cruise to nowhere.

MEANING is big for people with this signature. They’re seekers. It can be painful (for some) to realize there is no one there to share their travels or ideas or philosophies with.  What’s it all mean?

If a restless person does hit this wall, they can definitely change their ways by simply realizing that restraining yourself is another adventure and way to expand and be (further) educated.

This is a great topic for this time as Jupiter is leaving Sagittarius for Capricorn.

Are you a restless person who’s calmed with age?  Tell us about it.

Weekend Love Forecast – Venus Sextile Saturn, Building Trust That Pays Off

Friday night, the Gemini Moon trines the Libra Sun. It’s an airy night, a social night. At the outset it looks like relief and a social swirl, a mood to chat and make nice. If you look past the surface, that swirl is a bit dirty… and delicious.

Gemini Moon ruler Mercury is in Scorpio in sextile to Pluto in Capricorn, exact Saturday; and Libra Sun ruler Venus sextiles Saturn in Cap from Scorpio all weekend, exact Sunday morning. Mercury and Venus in Scorpio are subtle but STRONG. They will not be ignored (hello potential bunny boilers). The conversation will always steer onto the edges of the safety zone, rattling cages and titillating the naughty bits. And we want that, because the pleasure is palpable and undeniable.

Mercury sextile Pluto takes the conversation deep. In this aspect, the opportunity is there to skirt the weeds and get or give the info needed to transcend the norm and forge a shift in attitude and reason. We also sense things in the undercurrent. We don’t know how we know but somehow ask the right questions. With Uranus in Taurus, that’s often enough to pop someone out of their comfort zone and answer with startling clarity. Or again – you just sense it. We can pick up on what’s underneath.

Venus in Scorpio sextile Saturn brings the chance to build trust. It’s bait, delicious bait, held by the hand that pets seductively, long enough to calm the savage breast. If you want something or someone deeply, show that you are worthy. And it is going to take an offering, a sacrifice of something of real value. What is their love language? Offer that. You know what’s a love language that’s scorpionic? Money. Why? Because it’s taboo to say you like money. Don’t be afraid to lure someone or just offer up what someone really wants. Don’t be afraid of what they want. Build intimacy, build trust.

Saturday, the Moon moves to Cancer and its own rule. The Moon in Cancer resonates well with the Scorpio energies. It’s an expert mood for subtleties. It does square Mars in Libra, however. The mood is motivated by emotion and heart, by a need for satisfaction. The action principle, Mars, is limited in Libra. It doesn’t swing freely like it might in Aries, the sign it rules. Libra Mars observes the social graces, which runs counter to Libra ruler Venus in Scorpio (which wants what it wants, nice or not).

So action may be stilted or too polite to satisfy. But that’s a general atmosphere thing as well, particularly with the Sun in Libra. So take the Scorpio “edge” and add some sweet smoke. That relaxes the strictures. Talk sweet not-quite-nothings with some soft innuendo, not enough knife to it to cut – just enough edge to stimulate. Make the words sweet… with bite.

Sunday morning, the Cancer Moon moves into a grand water trine with Neptune in Pisces and Venus. It opposes Saturn as Venus sextiles Saturn exactly. This is a kite with an earthy, cardinal outlet. It is delicious, delightful, a slightly naughty flow of pleasure and emotion… with a chewy, long-lasting center. This has value, worth. It has the ability to satisfy and be satisfied. It’s also the peak of the ability to build that level of intimacy and trust. Don’t worry about missing a critical period; it’s active all day.

That intimacy and trust pays off down the road. Invest now.

The Moon goes on to oppose Pluto and trine Mercury. Plans and agreements, facts and a change of mind and attitude are all possible. A complete change of heart through logic and sense is possible. But keep your cool; it has a fated quality. To make the most of this, lean in to what makes sense – not what comes from need or lack. There’s a primal feel to it.

By the end of the night, the Cancer Moon squares the Libra Sun. We’re near to Scorpio season. Leave room for some impolitic rumble under the floorboards. It’s what the night calls for. You can be satisfied regardless.

What are your weekend plans?

How Society Views Violent Crime: Pluto In Capricorn vs Pluto In Aquarius

Did you know there is no such thing a (violent) crime of passion? Up until 1980 it was widely believed that people went crazy and committed violent acts. They were out of their mind and this thing happened. They killed someone or whatever. Many people still believe this. If I ever sit on a jury with one of them I will be able to disabuse them of this notion because I am familiar with Lonnie Athens’ work.

In the late 1970’s Lonnie Athens ran around and interviewed violent criminals in prison. One of the things he discovered was that they knew exactly what they were doing. I admire Athens. Not many people would be able to waltz into a prison and get these dudes to talk to them with any kind of candor. Matter of fact, Athens risked his life for this research which he published in 1980 in his book, The Creation of Dangerous Violent Criminals.

Turns out the thought process that leads a violent criminal to commit the act does not vary from criminal to criminal. When talking about their crimes, the offenders all sound like this:

“Well at first I was just going to do x,y, and z, bust him/her up a little…”

and then they shift; finding justification for what they are about to do:

“But then she did a, b, c… “ or “But then I started thinking about last week or last month or yesterday…”

And they come to their conclusion.

“At that point I decided I should just kill him/her…”

It’s shocking how utterly cognizant these people are of what they are doing, especially when you contrast it with the “crime of passion” idea which it turns out is a big myth!

I think the idea of people committing violent crimes in some kind of altered state is our collective (Pluto) defense against reality (Saturn). I also think that when Pluto goes into Capricorn the defense will fall.

Update – I originally wrote this in 2010. Pluto is in Capricorn now. The collective view of violent criminals has changed, considerably.

People have more awareness of dark, hidden machinations that go on. You’d be hard pressed to find someone willing to excuse a murderer because he or she was feeling passionate! We better understand “cold and calculating”. The popularity of crime shows, both “real” and fiction may have helped in this regard.

Looking ahead, at Pluto in Aquarius, I imagine the collective violence to be ruthless and bloodless; machined.

Venus Neptune: How To Quit Pining For The Perfect Man (And Dumping The Good Ones)

Are you pining for the perfect man?  If you’re a Virgo, or if you have Venus in Pisces or Venus aspected by Neptune, chances are you’ve invested years dreaming of some kind of idealized love.  You may pine for an ex. You may pine for someone you’ve yet to meet. You may pine for someone who is unavailable to you but what you won’t do is come to terms with reality!

I have Venus square Neptune, myself. So I know this movie. And movies… tv, Neptune-ruled film, is one way to cure it.

I had this idea while working with a long-term client who is in a long-term relationship with a man who loves her. She loves him too, those he’s always, always, always falling short. She knows about this Neptune deal but she’s just not been able to get beyond it. The last time we talked, I assigned her some homework.  Watch TV!

See, the media feeds this kind of thing.  They portray these perfect, gorgeous men, coupled with some quirky gal for whom he will do ANYTHING.  Once you spot it, you’ll see what I mean.

gifted manThe Ghost Whisperer show was a great example. The gal runs around making everything right in both life and the afterlife, while she runs a business and is an exceptionally good friend + kind person and lovely.

She often wears evening gowns to chase demons around, or various whores with hearts of gold.

If not that, it’s slim fitting slacks with lots and lots and lots of cleavage and perfect makeup.  Her house is immaculate and she never breaks a nail or a sweat or farts or anything.

Her man is even more wonderful.  No! He doesn’t mind if he has to cook, clean and understand when she gets up at two am with an important ghost to deal with.  He’s happy to do the dishes and when he’s not cleaning up or being second banana to the wonderfully gifted Ghost Whisperer, he’s out saving lives.

This man is never tired. No fatigue, okay?  If she wants him to touch her, he complies; touching her where and how she prefers for the right amount of time. Why? Because he’s perfect.

Now I shouldn’t have to spell it out but men are not like this. Either are women!

“A Gifted Man” is another example.  He’s a rock star surgeon who can maintain his high end state-of-the-art practice, while spending most of his time working ate the free clinic, helping the indigent.  In my favorite episode, he comes across a rollover crash on his way to some formal-something. He’s impeccably dressed, complete with a pristine white scarf, which stays that way, in spite of his crawling around on pavement saving the lives of bleeding people!

Now I’m telling you, these portrayals of men are all over the place and decades of watching this stuff does affect a person.  Who wouldn’t want to chase ghosts all day, have plenty of money, a man who adores them and gourmet food, perfectly prepared without going to the grocery store? And no dirty clothes in your life, ever!

I think there’s enough here to consider.  If you are pining for someone, ask yourself if your dream of them is even remotely connected to even a shred of reality.

Since I know the client well, when she followed up to tell me that her partner said something hurtful (which they both do, on a routine basis), I sent her this:

You have to admit it’s funny. I mean, there you go! But seriously.  If you have this problem, try scrutinizing what you’re watching.

My husband and see this stuff and mock it to high heaven!  “Mcdreamy”… right.  I think he got fired for being a jerk, no?

Virgo rising; you’re in this too. And Venus in the 12th house or Neptune in the 7th, or on an angle for that matter.

Got Venus Neptune? Tell us about your pining. Have tv, movies or music helped or hindered you?

New Moon Scorpio Opposing Uranus: October 27, 2019: Effects By House

The new moon in Scorpio takes place in the late evening on October 27th at four degrees. The sun and moon will be opposed by Uranus at four degrees Taurus. That’s taut!

People want to know what’s going to happen to them under new and full moons. In this case, with Uranus so strongly involved, it’s entirely unpredictable.

To understand, consider the collapse of the Hard Rock Hotel in New Orleans (8 second video).

That’s a perfect example of this. This is not like a hurricane which can be tracked. Uranus strikes and when and where, nobody knows.

Scorpio is associated with death. Mashed with Uranus, the first thing that comes to mind is sudden, unexpected, death.  However, that interpretation does not even begin to cover it.

Uranus liberates and these are Fixed signs we’re talking about. It’s possible you break free of some kind obsession that’s “killing” you.  You can have have a psychological breakthrough. You can also have psychological breakdown, but often enough this is what leads a person to therapy which ultimately heals them.

We’re also talking about signs ruled by Venus and Mars. Partnerships may be disrupted but the effect may be positive. Have you ever fallen away from a friendship, then at some point in time you return? You may have thought the relationship was cooked.  Apparently not. You realize this when the bond is reestablished.

You’re not likely to be bored under this new moon. This is especially true if you have planets in the early degrees of the Fixed signs (Taurus, Leo, Scorpio, Aquarius). The new moon will be followed by what I feel will be a highly productive Mercury retrograde period. See – Other People’s Candy.

We set intentions under the new moon. Here are some ideas, depending on where the new moon falls in your natal chart:new moon in scorpio 2019

New Moon in the 1st house – Personal power; you’re in charge. Leader. Also, the overthrow of a self-obsessed leader.
New Moon in the 2nd house – Stock market, other people’s money, change in the level of your self-esteem.  S
New Moon in the 3rd house –  Bond with neighbors or siblings. Deep conversation.  Possible disturbing news.
New Moon in the 4th house – Family loyalty.  Disruption at home (broken pipes, etc.). Also, hunkering down. Pull your horns in.
New Moon in the 5th house –  Feeding a child via the root.  Possible experimentation with taboo, casual sex.
New Moon in the 6th house – Powerful presence at work. Possible power struggle. Also, sudden change in health or diet. Breakthrough pain (sorry).
New Moon in the 7th house – Relationship turnarounds or reversals. Also loyalty to partner, when it’s least expected… or the opposite of that.  The non-cheater, cheats.  Divorce, but also stopping a divorce.
New Moon in the 8th house – Contact with your deepest self.  What’s unconscious is revealed. Ending (or beginning) therapy.
New Moon in the 9th house –  Broadcast power.  Travel for healing.  Transformation of beliefs.
New Moon the 10th house –  Powerful authority… and potential to fall from grace. Picture a statue of a dictator being torn down.
New Moon in the 11th house – Loyalty among friends… or unexpected upset of same. Manipulation of groups of individuals.
New Moon in the 12th house – Empowered by the ethereal in ways you’d never expect.

Where does the new moon fall in your chart?  What’s your intention?

Synastry – The Hidden Power of the Nadir

When beginners start learning synastry, there’s a tendency to jump straight in and focus on Venus and Mars, and maybe even the Descendant. Which makes sense, right? Of course you want to be attracted to your partner. You want to be pulled toward them, for them to turn your head every time. But for real, lasting love, you need more. You want your partner to feel like home.

For this, we need to look to the Moon and the nadir, or IC. The Moon represents our emotional core, what makes us feel satisfied and safe. And the IC, which opposes the Midheaven, is our most private point. It represents who we are in our most sacred recesses, those soft vulnerable places that are never exposed to the harsh light of day.

Putting those together, you have what makes up our concept of home. A place where you can be totally safe and feel free to be exactly who you are. A place where you are valued for what you already are, and a place that provides a respite from the world. And in love, that is a beautiful thing.

I will cop to be biased here. In my personal life, I am notorious for dating people’s Moons. As a matter of fact, every single man I have dated with any degree of seriousness has had his Moon almost exactly conjunct my IC. But I am also notorious for having exceptionally long-lasting, deeply committed relationships. And I think this is no coincidence.

When your partner is your comfort, your soft place to fall, it creates a deep, untouchable bond. Very few things on this earth can come between a person and their home. When you have that unshakable sense of trust and safety, there is value there that cannot be easily discarded. Saturn isn’t the only glue in town.

So the next time you want to see what kind of long-term potential you are your prospective partner have, take a look at the Moon and the IC. If you see connections there, breathe a sigh of relief. You’re home.

Weekly Forecast: October 14-18, 2019 – Digging Up The Details, Scorpio Mercury And Pluto

The general arc of the week incorporates some clean up from the full moon in Aries aspecting Jupiter and Pluto. Scorpio Mercury digs deep into the details and fallout as it aspects Saturn, Neptune, and eventually Pluto. Venus heads toward those aspects as well.

Monday, the Moon closes the book on Aries as Mercury completes a sextile to Saturn. Early in the day we’re privy to what’s already mined, as details emerge in the collective. As the Moon hits Venus-ruled Taurus, it conjoins Uranus. The early Moon in Aries finishes an emotional chapter. The Taurus Moon takes the mood into another subject entirely.

Tuesday, Mercury trines Neptune exactly, with Venus moving toward trine with Neptune as well. The Venus-ruled Taurus Moon opposes Venus then Mercury, trining Saturn then sextiling Neptune. On Wednesday, the Moon trines Pluto, continuing on through the end of Taurus. Th whole of that Taurus mood fosters moving from past info into a space of allowing the revelations to sink in and bloom. We make sense of it all, but we also infuse our planning with some values-based revelations. Listen to your intuition as well as the facts. This short period could be the catalyst of a powerful paradigm shift.

Later Wednesday, the Moon moves to Mercury-ruled Gemini and a sextile to Chiron overnight. There are two moods likely: Either you sleep and dream an exciting stack of possibilities, or a churning mind turns up something tasty minus the sleep.

Thursday’s Gemini Moon trines Mars and goes on to quincunx Saturn. The mood drives action on those plans. But it’s airy, fun, and likely sociable. See what else you can find out as you get the ball rolling. Share info, even better if you can work or play together while doing so. It greases the wheels.

Friday morning the Gemini Moon squares Neptune, going on to form the point of a yod from Mercury and Jupiter. The Moon takes an opposition from Jupiter through the center, like an arrow. Mercury’s sextile to Pluto is exact Saturday, but the numbers are close enough for a strong effect. Open up to a blast of inspiration from outside yourself. The Neptune square to the Moon complicates interpretation of that drive. How do I know if it’s inspiration or wishful thinking? Wait for the fiery blast. If you have to ask, that’s not it.

It can feel like enlivening, bouncy inspiration or it can feel like a plot twist that blows your hair back. But you FEEL it.

Friday night, the Gemini Moon opposes Pallas Athena, pattern intelligence, then goes on to trine the Sun overnight, through the end of the sign. We are challenged to go deeper and draw even more detailed conclusions and churn up further possible connections to the truth. The Gem Moon period this week will benefit from discussion and social mulling. Don’t hesitate to bounce your ideas off someone in order to refine them. Make sure it’s the right person, though. Nutty people produce nutty theories, so choose wisely; choose a balanced outlook. That shouldn’t be difficult given the Sun’s powerful presence in Libra.

Aries Moon signals finishing the accumulation of past info. Taurus Moon rounds up the usual suspects along with some interesting new dirt, curating their value and meaning; it all sinks in. We’re thirsty for it. Gemini Moon shows us through a period of reflection and divination on our way to striking a powerful new mode through a wealth of understanding.

Mercury is already in its retrograde shadow (the area it will travel back over during and after the retro period). It spends this entire period in Scorpio. Now is the initial dig. Be discerning in laying out your grid. When the retrograde message hits the fan, Mars squares Pluto. We’re going to dig in hard. Set the stage with precision.
